A local Fairway Independent Mortgage branch in the Houston, TX area partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to honor a U.S. veteran with a housing grant. Along with this event, a residential housing “Boot Camp” was held to train real estate professionals and mortgage planners on how to handle the home purchase needs of active duty and military veterans with excellence.
The honoree at the event, SSG Phillip Blackmon, is an Army veteran who spent 7 years as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Specialist. SSG Blackmon was awarded the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Badge, Combat Action Badge, Iraq Service medal with two stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal and a Purple Heart before being medically retired. SSG Blackmon and his wife lost everything they had due to the flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation and The American Warrior Initiative were able to honor SSG Blackmon with a housing grant of $20,000.
Founded by Louise Thaxton and Sean Parnell, the American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, which seeks to ease the transition for U.S. veterans between military and civilian life.
I am proud to work for a company that does so much to honor those who sacrifice for our country. If I can help answer any questions about VA loans or any other home loan options, give me a call.Tags: Veterans
